Ohio’s Black Hand Syndicate, The Birth of Organized Crime in America

  • Columbus Historical Society 717 West Town Street Columbus, OH, 43222 United States (map)

Organized crime was born in the back of a fruit store in Marion, Ohio. Before America saw headlines about the Capone Mob, the Purple Gang and Murder Inc., the specter of the Black Hand terrorized nearly every major city. In Columbus, the police were determined to prevent the Mafia from gaining a foothold, and authors David Meyers and Elise Meyers Walker will explore that and other aspects of the story found their new book, Ohio’s Black Hand Syndicate: The Birth of Organized Crime in America. The authors will sell and sign their book afterwards.

The event is free, but registration is required as space is limited.  After registering, if you later find you are unable to attend, please cancel or let us know at info@columbushistory.org so that individuals on the waitlist can be notified.
