Magical History Tour

Discover over 200 years of the history of our great city!  Bring your group: family reunion, class reunion, conference group, or business clients, and they will say “Hey, I didn’t know that!”

Tours begin in Franklinton, the first American settlement in Franklin County, Ohio, where you will learn about this historic area beginning in the days of the buffalo trails.  Discover the past of Mount Carmel West, the National Road, and Bloody Island before heading into downtown Columbus.  Here you will learn about important individuals, such as Henry T. Chittenden and Washington Gladden, who have played a role in Columbus’ past.  Hear about the history of the American Insurance Union and the LeVeque Tower.  Tours will learn about city prison, local and state government buildings, and government officials. Guests will find out about the history of White Castle, the Lazarus store, Wendy’s, and other local businesses throughout Columbus’ history.

Tour routes, sights, and content may vary due to construction, city events, weather, and unforeseen circumstances.

For nearly 40 years I have lived in Columbus and pride myself in being knowledgeable about my city, but the Columbus Historical Society bus tour was an eye-opener! What a treat and surprise to see aspects of the city with new eyes and from a historic perspective! It was a refreshing, enjoyable and informative tour that everyone in Columbus should take at least once!
